We had more than normal wind storms in the 2017 season. One of which
had winds between 15 and 20 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH.
Our 20 foot tall mega tree is held in place with 6 stainless steel guy wires secured with airplane grade tie downs they attach to in the ground.
Well.. as you will see in the picture below, the wires held and the top of the tree stayed in place, however, the pole bent the metal between the top of the pole and the star, I have marked in red the section that was bent, and in orange where the pole USED to be!
The pole topper is beyond repair and will be replaced for the2018 show, I hope to have a local welder reinforce the new one to avoid this problem from occuring again, the good news, it did not break and cause the entire tree to topple damaging not just the lights, but other show components as well.
